After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned amidst recent protests that even saw the central bank’s headquarters being stormed, the pressure on top officials continued to escalate. As a result of this mounting pressure, Abdur Rouf Talukder, the governor of Bangladesh Bank, decided to tender his resignation. The entire political landscape of Bangladesh was thrown into turmoil as these resignations signified a significant shift in the country’s leadership structure.

Abdur Rouf Talukder submitted his resignation to Bangladesh’s finance ministry on Friday

Abdur Rouf Talukder resigned from Bangladesh’s finance ministry, as part of a wave of resignations following the fall of the Awami League-led government, citing personal reasons for his resignation.

According to the reliable source, Abdur Rouf Talukder, a prominent figure within the organization, has noticeably been absent from his usual duties since the beginning of the week, coinciding with the abrupt removal of Sheikh Hasina due to a significant uprising from various factions within the establishment.

On 7 August, in light of increasing public backlash accusing them of promoting financial misconduct, four deputy governors made the decision to resign from their positions. The growing demand for their removal stemmed from allegations of their involvement in fostering unethical financial practices within the organization, prompting their voluntary step-down.

“Safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities”

Sheikh Hasina escaped Dhaka’s streets on Monday, marking the end of her 15-year rule, after protests claimed over 450 lives, including dozens of police officers killed during clashes with demonstrators.

After Hasina’s downfall, Hindu residences and businesses in Bangladesh came under attack because some people thought they supported her.

At the border with India, hundreds of Hindus from Bangladesh have congregated and are making an effort to cross.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged for “safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities”.
