Valve has prohibited Counter-Strike 2 players from using keyboard shortcuts to do precise counter-strafes. Razer and Wooting have incorporated Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions (SOCD) functionality to their Huntsman V3 Pro keyboards. Using Snap Tap or Wooting’s Snappy Tappy will lead to a ban from Counter-Strike 2 games.

“Recently, some hardware features have blurred the line between manual input and automation”

Valve said “Recently, some hardware features have blurred the line between manual input and automation, so we’ve decided to draw a clear line on what is or isn’t acceptable in Counter-Strike, We are no longer going to allow automation (via scripting or hardware) that circumvent these core skills and, moving forward, (and initially—exclusively on Valve Official Servers) players suspected of automating multiple player actions from a single game input may be kicked from their match.”

SOCD was tested in Counter-Strike 2 and confirmed to be removed from the game on Valve’s official servers without an account ban. Valve is banning some keyboard functions but has not yet banned accounts that use them.

Some professional Counter-Strike 2 players had called for SOCD to be banned

Players can use Razer and Wooting’s SOCD features to automate swapping strafe directions without acquiring the skill. In first-person shooters, players must release one key before pressing the other, which cancels and takes a while to release one. SOCD reduces this requirement by letting players to instantly tap the A or D keys to counter-strafe with minimal effort.

Some professional Counter-Strike 2 players have requested for SOCD to be outlawed, same as null binds, which prevent you from pushing two opposed directions, have been banned in tournaments for many years.

Wooting reluctantly added a beta version of SOCD to its keyboard lineup after Razer implemented the capability on its own hardware. Wooting in a post on X said “We are glad Valve has taken a stance against Snap Tap, Don’t use Snappy Tappy (SOCD) or Rappy Snappy in CS2 any more as it will result in a kick.”
