Taylor Fritz’s Reaction to Being Mistaken for Taylor Swift
American tennis star Taylor Fritz’s humorous reaction to being mistaken for pop icon Taylor Swift has resurfaced following his appearance in the 2024 US Open final.
The confusion around their names gained renewed attention when Swift, along with her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, attended Fritz’s final match against Jannik Sinner.
Despite his valiant effort, Fritz lost the match 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 to the Italian in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
As Swift cheered him on from the spectator box, social media quickly resurfaced a video where Fritz candidly addresses being mistakenly called “Taylor Swift.”
In the clip, Fritz mentioned that while he’s frequently confused for the global superstar, he doesn’t quite understand the comparison.
“I’ve had a lot of people say ‘Taylor Swift’ instead of Fritz. I don’t see the similarities really, but I don’t care, obviously,” he said with a chuckle.
The amusing mix-up between the two Taylors has been a lighthearted topic among fans and added to the buzz around the US Open final.
Fritz’s Emotional Response to US Open Loss
While the name confusion brought levity to the moment, Fritz had an emotional response following his US Open defeat.
The 26-year-old, who had an incredible run to the final, expressed his disappointment for not being able to secure a win for the American fans.
In his post-match interview, Fritz said, “It’s been an amazing run, and thank you to the fans for all the love this week. Being an American at the US Open is just incredible.”
He apologised for not being able to break the 21-year drought for American men in winning the US Open, vowing to work harder and deliver in the future.
“I know you’ve been waiting for a champion for a long time, so I’m sorry I couldn’t get it done this time,” Fritz said. Despite the loss, Fritz’s efforts have been appreciated, and his current ATP ranking rose to World No. 7.
