Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has chosen the bigger Liverpool legend between Gerrard and Salah.
Gerrard has retired from Football and has had a few stints as a manager, meanwhile, Salah, an Egypt international, has played 352 matches across all competitions, scoring 214 goals and 92 assists. He currently represents Merseyside and has a year left on his contract at Anfield.
Salah has won Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles, while Gerrard won the Champions League once, making 710 appearances and scoring 186 times for the Reds.
“What separates them is that Gerrard carries the whole team on his back.
Nicol said “Gerrard (is the bigger Liverpool legend compared to Salah in my opinion). What separates them is that Gerrard carries the whole team on his back.”
“Without Salah’s goals, Liverpool probably don’t have a Champions League and Premier League, but the 10 (players) around him were better than what Gerrard had (in his team). He carried the team on his back, that’s why (he’s the bigger legend).” He added.
Gerrard is currently managing Al-Ettifaq, while Salah has started the Premier League season well for the Reds, netting and assisting three times in three matches.
Salah is expected to start for his team against Nottingham Forest on September 14. Salah and his team are second in the league standings.
Salah wishes to extend his contract
According to reports, Mohamed Salah, an attacker for Liverpool, wants to stay at Anfield past the summer of 2025. As reported by the Echo, the Egyptian and his family are reportedly content on Merseyside.
This would be great news for Reds fans, as Salah continues to prove his worth to the team despite being above the age of 30. He joined the club in the summer of 2017 from AS Roma for a reputed €42 million.
Should Salah choose to leave, Arne Slot lacks a natural left-footed successor on the right wing. This would underscore the importance of keeping a player like Salah at Liverpool.
Salah has so far completed three times as the Premier League’s top goalscorer (2017–18, 2018–19, and 2021-22).
