Manchester United have announced the signing of 18-year-old French defender Leny Yoro from Lille. The highly-rated prospect has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2029, with the option for an additional year.

Despite his young age, Yoro has already amassed significant experience at the professional level. He has already made 60 first-team appearances for Lille, a remarkable feat for a teenager. His impressive performances last season earned him a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season and played a crucial role in helping Lille secure a fourth-place finish in the French top flight.

Yoro Excited for New Challenge at United

Speaking after signing for Manchester United, Yoro expressed his delight at joining such a prestigious club. “Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honor,” he said. Yoro went on to highlight the positive discussions he had with the club regarding his development, as well as their commitment to supporting him and his family.

He also acknowledged the club’s history of nurturing young talent, stating, “I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new teammates. I cannot wait to get started.”

United See Yoro as a Future Star

Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth is confident that Yoro has the potential to become a world-class center-back. “Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football; he possesses every attribute needed to develop into a top-class centre-back,” Ashworth remarked. He emphasized Yoro’s impressive start to his career and the club’s commitment to helping him reach his full potential.

Ashworth also highlighted Manchester United’s established track record of developing young players, both homegrown and acquired from abroad. “Under Erik ten Hag and our excellent staff we will ensure that Leny has the perfect platform to achieve the success that everyone across the club is aiming for,” he concluded.

The signing of Leny Yoro is a significant boost for Manchester United’s backline. Yoro’s arrival adds depth and competition to the central defensive positions, alongside established figures like Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire. His youth and potential offer a long-term solution for Manchester United’s defense, and fans will be eager to see him develop under the guidance of manager Erik ten Hag.
