The National Cricket League in the United States has named former ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat as its commissioner, to promote the sport across the country.

Lorgat, a former first-class cricketer, held the position of ICC CEO from 2008 to 2012, during which he managed three World Cups and contributed to significant advancements like the Decision Review System (DRS), strengthened anti-corruption initiatives, and the expansion of cricket in associate nations.
“I’m privileged to take on this role with the National Cricket League at such a transformative moment. Cricket is a sport with the power to inspire new players and connect fans across the US,” Lorgat stated, as reported by Sportstar.
“We’re bringing something fresh, and with our focus on sustainability and global access, we are laying the groundwork to reshape American sports for future generations,” he continued.
With Lorgat at the helm, the NCL is set to launch its first-ever Sixty Strikes Tournament, a 60-ball cricket format that has received approval from the ICC.
The tournament will run from October 4 to 14 at the University of Dallas, marking the first national sports league partnership with a university. The NCL anticipates a daily attendance of approximately 4,000 spectators.
NCL Poised To Reshape Cricket With ICC Endorsement
“We have established the National Cricket League as a premier force in the global cricket arena,” NCL’s chairman Arun Agarwal stated.
“With the prestigious ICC endorsement, Haroon Lorgat’s visionary leadership, and our strategic partnership with SEE Holdings championing sustainability, we are already reshaping the future of cricket in America and setting a new global standard for the sport,” Agarwal added.
The NCL also revealed a partnership with SEE Holdings, a Dubai-based company known for its leadership in sustainability and innovation.
This year’s league will showcase top-level players from across the globe, including Shahid Afridi, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan, Robin Uthappa, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Chris Lynn, Angelo Mathews, Colin Munro, Sam Billings, and Mohammad Nabi.
Cricket legends such as Zaheer Abbas, Wasim Akram, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sir Vivian Richards, Venkatesh Prasad, Sanath Jayasuriya, Moin Khan, and Blair Franklin will also participate in the league as mentors and coaches.
