Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, one of the most controversial leaders, will speak in one of the few places he can count on among Republicans for support in a meeting of the US Congress. Netanyahu said he would “present the truth about our just war”
“Criminals like Netanyahu are not welcome”
This is the first trip of Netanyahu outside Israel since the war started between Israel and Hamas. PM Benjamin was invited by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson to address Congress in nine years and made a statement against protesters that there would be arrests “if we have to do it.”
Ahmad Abuznaid, executive director of the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights and a chief organizer, said protesters would “make the statement that war criminals like Netanyahu are not welcome” in the US
Netanyahu will definitely face huge criticism among Democratic lawmakers and protesters, protests are very much expected on the streets.
Protesters rage over PM Netanyahu
Since the war started in October last year, more than 39,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israelis and denied the crimes. This has enraged the people and filled them with grief, protesting against him.
“All the protests have shown a tone of rage, but this time is definitely different,” Ayah, an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement said. “It is our enemy, our primary enemy, they are inviting into the White House.”
One of the protesters said she was traveling from California to protest against the deaths of family members and other civilians in the “mass slaughter” in Gaza.
“The idea of the man responsible for these atrocities being allowed to come here, channels my rage,” she said.
“I’ve lost over 40 members of my family and work through grief every day to remain committed to showing up for my people. This is a huge moment.”
PM Netanyahu expected to meet Biden, Harris and Trump
PM Netanyahu is expected to meet with Biden and Vice President Harris, and possibly with former President Donald Trump after the speech.
Though Biden is a strong supporter of Israel, he shows frustration over Israel for killing thousands of Palestines. The Gaza’s Ministry of Health recently revealed the number of Palestinians killed in the territory has surpassed 39,000 and even said that they do not even think and distinguish before killing, the death toll has increased with women and children accounting for well over half of the dead.
