If you’ve decided to leave Instagram permanently or take a break from the platform, it’s important to understand the proper steps for both deleting and deactivating your account. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to delete an Instagram account and how to temporarily deactivate it.

How to Permanently Delete Your Instagram Account

  • Log In: Access your Instagram account through a web browser, as deletion isn’t available via the mobile app.

  • Go to Deletion Page: Find the Instagram account deletion page by searching “Delete Your Account” in the Help Center or using the direct link from Instagram’s support articles.

  • Choose a Reason: Select a reason for deleting your account from the dropdown menu. Feedback is optional but helpful.

  • Enter Your Password:Confirm your identity by entering your Instagram password.

  • Delete Account: Click “Permanently delete my account” to start the deletion process. Your account will be deleted after a 30-day grace period, during which you can reactivate it if needed.

  • Confirmation: Instagram will notify you that your account is scheduled for deletion. After 30 days, your account and all data will be permanently removed.

Temporarily Deactivate 

 Without permanently deleting your account, you can temporarily deactivate it if you’re looking for detox. Here’s how:

  • Log In to Instagram

Use a web browser to log in to your account; you can’t deactivate through the app.

  • Go to Your Profile

Click on your profile picture in the top right and select “Profile.”

  • Edit Profile

Click “Edit Profile” and scroll to the bottom to find the option “Temporarily disable my account.”

  • Select a Reason

Choose a reason from the dropdown menu for taking a break.

  • Enter Your Password

Confirm your request by entering your password.

  • Deactivate Your Account

Click “Temporarily Disable Account” to finish. Your account will be hidden until you choose to reactivate it.
