Many fans are upset about Deadpool & Wolverine saying they ruined Wolverine’s perfect ending in Logan. The movie also imperiled another notable MCU legacy, from an even more important movie.
Hugh Jackman returned to the screen as Wolverine
The movie saw Hugh Jackman return to the screen as Wolverine after saying goodbye to the role years back. The latest announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU timeline and play the role of Villain as Doctor Doom, suggested that another character’s perfect goodbye might be undone in the MCU’s future.
Deadpool & Wolverine features various cameos from the early years of Marvel movies. Many of these were primarily thrilling fan service, bringing back forgotten characters and showing many in
comic-accurate costumes for the first time.
With the latest news that Robert Downey Jr. will play the MCU’s Doctor Doom, one of these cameos has been reconsidered, risking the ruins of another legendary Avenger’s poignant conclusion.
Marvel has always been uncertain of death in its Comics
Marvel has never been certain of death in its Comics, with many famous examples of characters dying and returning, often even more than once. There is a phrase, “no one stays dead except Uncle Ben,” referencing Peter Parker’s uncle, whose death propels him to become Spider-Man. Unless intrinsic to a character’s origin story, death in Marvel Comics is normally temporary. Death is usually temporary in Marvel unless it is inborn to a character’s origin story.
This is the evidence in the MCU, where character deaths and resurrections are becoming more ordinary. For example, Avengers: Infinity War saw half the universe be wiped out, only to return in Avengers: Endgame while the other deceased MCU characters have appeared at the early stages in the MCU timeline.
