Italy’s Alice D’Amato won the gold medal in the balance beam event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. D’Amato delivered the cleanest routine, scoring 14.366, and broke into tears when the final scores were announced. China’s Zhou Yaqin took the silver medal, and Italy’s Manila Esposito secured the bronze.
In a surprising turn, the U.S. team did not win any medals in the balance beam event for the first time since 2000. Simone Biles and Suni Lee both had falls during the final, ending their chances for a podium finish. Lee, who had previously won bronze on the uneven bars, had hoped for a gold medal on the beam but experienced an unfortunate mistake during the final.
