Beatrice, the granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth and daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, revealed her pregnancy in a palace statement on October 1.
Beatrice Expecting Second Child
At 36, Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 40, are already parents to daughter Sienna Elizabeth, born in September 2021. Beatrice is due in early spring and is also a stepmother to Edo’s son, Christopher Woolf, known as “Wolfie,” from a previous relationship.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child together in early spring; a sibling for Wolfie, aged eight, and Sienna, aged three,” Buckingham Palace stated in a statement.
Beatrice’s uncle, King Charles, expressed his happiness regarding the announcement. “His Majesty The King has been informed and both families are delighted with the news,” the statement continued.
The palace also unveiled two new photos of Princess Beatrice and her family. One image captures Beatrice and Edoardo in a warm embrace, both smiling broadly. The second photo shows Edoardo and his son Wolfie holding hands with Sienna as the family enjoys a stroll along a picturesque woodland path.
Speculation about Princess Beatrice and Edoardo’s relationship started in November 2018, with a source telling PEOPLE that “Edoardo is a friend of Beatrice’s family.” Edoardo proposed to Beatrice during a trip to Italy in September 2019, and they planned their royal wedding for the spring of 2020.
Beatrice and Edoardo’s Private Ceremony
During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in the U.K., Princess Beatrice and Edoardo officially postponed their wedding.
In an unexpected turn, the couple chose to have a private wedding at Windsor Chapel, attended by just 20 close friends and family members, including Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
“The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11 a.m. on Friday 17th July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor,” a statement from Buckingham Palace stated. “The small ceremony was attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and close family. The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant Government Guidelines.”
