BTS member Kim Namjoon, better known by his stage name RM, marked his 30th birthday on September 12, 2024, by making a generous donation to support veterans in South Korea. The K-pop idol donated 100 million won, equivalent to approximately $74,600, to the Veterans’ Fund through the “Everyone’s Veterans’ Dream” initiative.
RM thoughtful donation to the veterans
RM’s donation was made as part of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs’ “Uniformed Service Appreciation Campaign.” The funds will be used to provide welfare and medical treatment to uniformed service personnel and their families who have sacrificed for their country.
In a statement released by his agency, BigHit Music, RM expressed his appreciation for the dedication of those currently serving in the military. He also thanked his fans, known as ARMY, for their unwavering support and love. “I hope this contribution can provide some small help to all the heroes who are committed to our nation and to those working for peace. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the ARMY for always showering me with love and congratulations,” it added.
RM is recently enlisted in the military alongside other band members
RM enlisted in the military in December 2023, along with fellow BTS member Kim Taehyung, known as V. Their decision to serve their mandatory military service helped resolve a potential issue for the South Korean government, as pop artists are not typically exempt from conscription, unlike some athletes and classical musicians.
The donation made by RM on his 30th birthday showcases his commitment to supporting veterans and giving back to his country. It also highlights the social responsibility that comes with being a prominent figure in the K-pop industry.
