NFL star Travis Kelce is making his acting debut in the upcoming FX series Grotesquerie, and his mother, Donna Kelce, couldn’t be prouder. Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the series’ New York premiere, Donna shared her thoughts on her son’s new venture, emphasizing how his coachability and work ethic set him apart.
Travis Kelce’s Passion for New Challenges
According to Donna, acting is something Travis has had in mind for some time. Despite this being his first major role, she wasn’t surprised to see him pursue it.
Although Travis, 34, wasn’t present at the premiere, Donna, 71, was there to show her support. “I’ve been watching these guys for years… in plays, on the field. It’s just a mom watching her kids,” she shared, highlighting that this isn’t the first time she’s seen her son take on a performance role.
“He’s always coachable,” Donna said, reflecting on how her son approaches every challenge with an open mind.
His willingness to learn and adapt, qualities honed on the football field, are serving him well as he transitions into acting.
Co-star Niecy Nash-Betts echoed this sentiment, praising Travis for his professionalism and openness on set.
She noted how Travis was always prepared and eager to accept direction, saying, “He didn’t come in acting like he knew everything.”
Work Ethic Behind the Scenes
Donna also credited Travis’ strong work ethic for his success, not just in sports but in every endeavor he pursues.
She explained that he consistently strives for excellence, whether on the football field or in front of the camera.
This determination is what has made him a standout in the NFL and is now helping him in his acting journey.
Grotesquerie premieres on September 25, 2024, on FX, with fans eagerly awaiting to see Travis in his first scripted TV role.
