Patrick Beverley has signed a contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC of the Israeli Premier League after 12 years in the NBA. However, given the ongoing conflict in the region, he said that he’s a bomb away from returning to the USA.
“Not all Jewish people are cheap”
Beverley’s deal will pay him “approximately” $2 million next season, with a chance to earn another $1 million in bonuses if the team wins the EuroCup and qualifies for the EuroLeague,” as per Sportando.
“Not all Jewish people are cheap. The guy that gave me this contract, he was pretty generous,” Beverley said.
As per the reports, in his 12-year NBA career, Beverley averaged 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. However, in last season with the Bucks, he averaged 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 20.9 minutes per game.
Safety as Beverley’s first priority
In an episode of “The Pat Bev Podcast,” Beverley talks about his safety as his top priority and he would return to the USA if he felt endangered
“Safety is important. Bomb goes off, I’m gone,” Beverley said.
He discussed a drone explosion in Tel Aviv that killed one civilian and injured at least 10 others. The Houthi militia from Yemen takes up the responsibility for the attack and marks it as their first strike into a major Israeli city.
He then talks about how most of his team’s games will be played outside of Israel.
“The team, the EuroCup, we don’t play a lot at home. Most of our EuroCup games are in Bulgaria,” Beverley said.
Reassures fans of his safety
Beverley is scheduled to leave for a training camp in Bulgaria until August 19. Though it is still vague about his first game with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC
He reassures his fans about his safety in Israel and says “I talked to an American who played there, he’s not currently on the team, ‘It’s paradise. Went to the beach every single day for six hours a day, and I had no bad experience at all. I played basketball in paradise.”
