Holidaymakers have been warned that potential travel disruption may continue this weekend as UK transport networks resume to feel the impact of global IT outrage.
Passengers have to suffer with travel plans as thousands of flights were canceled internationally after a botched software upgrade hit Microsoft’s Windows operating system. As per experts, it could even take weeks to fully recover the system.
Reasons behind disruption
Considerable medical facilities, airlines, businesses, and police forces across the world have been hit by a massive Information Technology glitch with Microsoft computers showing “Blue Screens of Deaths” all over the world.
Crowdstrike, which provides cybersecurity services that use Microsoft systems, confirmed that it is “not a security incident or cyberattack.” It has provided a software update that automatically fixed some computers but caused delays for the other.
Then Microsoft later announced that its 365 apps services had recovered and Crowdstrike said a fix had been employed early in the morning but some frozen computers couldn’t receive the update causing disruption and delay.
Travel disruption
The incident caused havoc on various services and caused outrage among people. More than 5,078 flights, 4.6% of those scheduled, were canceled around the world. By the evening, 338 flights in and out of the UK,167 departures, and 171 arrivals had been canceled.
The spokesman said, “We’re at the start of one of the busiest periods of travel, with some schools finishing for the summer yesterday and many more next week.”
“Many people will be jetting off abroad – looking to escape the UK’s unseasonable weather of late.
With Spain, Turkey, and Greece among the popular destinations for an overseas trip,” He stated
“If you are heading off on holiday this weekend – by whatever means – it’s advisable to check with your travel provider if there are any extra steps you need to take, as some businesses are continuing to feel the impact of Friday’s IT outage.” further added.
Nick Kaye’s statement
Nick Kays the chair of National Pharmacy Association, represents independent community pharmacies, UK said:
“Systems are by and large back online and medicine deliveries have resumed in many community pharmacies today after the global IT outage. However, yesterday’s outage will have caused backlogs and we expect services to continue to be disrupted this weekend as pharmacies recover.”
“We urge people to be patient when visiting their local pharmacy and some may be still prioritizing those patients with emergency prescriptions from their GP surgery.”
