On Friday in São Paulo, Brazil, the Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was assisted off the field with six seconds remaining in his team’s 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles due to an apparent lower leg injury.
Injury at the last second put Love off field
As the clock was running out, Love attempted to throw to a teammate but was struck by two Eagles defensive backs and knocked to the ground. He remained on the pitch, moaning in agony, until the team physicians could inspect him. Love left the game after being assisted to the sidelines.
Love was replaced for the final two plays by backup quarterback Malik Willis of Green Bay, who signed with the organization at the end of August. The game ended after he threw an incomplete pass and was sacked.
In the defeat, Love completed 17 of 34 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. After the game, when asked how serious Love’s injury was, Packers coach Matt LaFleur replied, “I don’t know.” Christian Watson, a wide receiver, attempted to project optimism when he said, “I know he’s going to get through it, whatever it is. We’ll manage to overcome it”.
Love played a great role in the team
In July, Love committed to a four-year, $220 million deal that would keep him with the Packers until the 2028 campaign. ESPN reports that the agreement contained a record signing bonus of $75 million as well as $155 million in additional full guarantees. In his first full season as a starter last year, Love—who saw limited action in his first two seasons in Green Bay—performed admirably.
Last season, the 25-year-old quarterback started all 17 games and completed 4,159 yards of passing with 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating. Over the final eight games, he finished 6-2 with 18 touchdowns and just one interception, helping the Packers make it to the postseason.
