Health Scare and Misdiagnosis
On August 22, Vicki Gunvalson, the star of Real Housewives of Orange County, experienced alarming symptoms while with a client, leading to concerns of a stroke. The client, a retired physician, alerted Smith’s daughter Olivia, who recognized the severity of the situation and took Gunvalson to the hospital. Initially, doctors misdiagnosed her condition as a sinus infection and sent her home that night.
Later, after Smith returned from a trip, he found Gunvalson unconscious in a bathtub. He immediately took her back to the hospital, where it was discovered that she was suffering from sepsis caused by pneumonia. This misdiagnosis had delayed the proper treatment, putting Gunvalson’s health at serious risk.
#Path to Recovery and Support System
Following her hospitalization, Gunvalson has been focusing on recovery, albeit with a notably low energy level. She described her experience as traumatic, likening it to the effects of a stroke or PTSD, where her brain’s inability to recall events is a protective response. Despite her ongoing fatigue and difficulty walking, she has expressed gratitude for the support from Smith and his daughter Olivia.
Gunvalson’s RHOC costar, Shannon Beador, showed her support on social media, sending well wishes and expressing confidence in Gunvalson’s strength and recovery. Beador’s message highlighted the strong bond between the two and offered encouragement for Gunvalson’s ongoing healing process.
