On Monday, during his inaugural day as the new national team coach succeeding Gregg Berhalter, Mauricio Pochettino made the official announcement of incorporating his trusted assistant coaches into the US staff.

This strategic move marks a significant step in building a cohesive coaching team dedicated to the success and development of the national team.

The inclusion of his long-standing assistants underscores Pochettino’s commitment to maximizing his coaching staff’s expertise and experience to enhance the team’s performance on the field.

Pochettino coached Chelsea before the USSF

In a recent appointment, Jesus Perez was named the first assistant coach, with Miguel “Miki” D’Agostino chosen as assistant coach, Antonio “Toni” Jimenez assuming the role of goalkeeping coach, and Sebastiano Pochettino, the son of the head coach, joining as the sports scientist.

It is noteworthy that Pochettino’s coaching experience spans various prestigious clubs such as Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea before being recruited by the USSF ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

During his introductory news conference, Pochettino made it known that he would be bringing his established team along with him in this new endeavor.

Vincent Cavin has left the US Soccer Federation

The US Soccer Federation said that Vincent Cavin, who was appointed in December 2023 to serve as Berhalter’s assistant coach, has quit.

Gianni Vio, who was brought in by Berhalter to work as a specialized set piece coach, continues to be an integral part of the coaching staff. Furthermore, Silvia Tuya Viñas, with her experience from working with the women’s team Levante Badalona, was appointed as the team’s strength and conditioning coach.

The US national team kicked off their training session on Monday in preparation for upcoming friendlies against Panama at Austin, Texas, followed by a match against Mexico in Guadalajara just three days later.

Berhalter’s tenure as head coach came to an end in July following the team’s disappointing first-round exit at the Copa America.
