LeBron James, a 39-year-old LA Lakers star, continues to excel in his prime years, a feat typically seen in a man half his age. This remarkable ability of top athletes to remain effective late into their 30s has been criticized by Boston Celtics champion Kevin Garnett, who believes it may have negatively impacted fans.
“I was thinking about this. Man, we have lost our way”
In the August 22 episode of ‘Ticket & The Truth,’ which he co-hosts with fellow champion Paul Pierce, Garnett went on a rant, claiming that fans have become spoiled by what NBA stars do.
He said “You know what’s crazy bro? I was thinking about this. Man, we have lost our way. When we watch the athletes so much, and so much of years of greatness, that man, we the fans have become spoiled. Man I’m sitting up here listening to this, like bro, we’re talking about aliens, you know where your aliens are? Your aliens are your athletes.”
“We just saw the Olympics right? No regular person in there that had on their country was regular. And as fans we gotta always make sure that we appreciate, what we are seeing out of these athletes. You don’t know the countless hours that these athletes now put in to be these types of athletes.” He added.
Garnett proceeded with his tirade, daring the supporters to search their local communities for a 40-year-old and see if they could perform the same feats as modern players.
He continued “I want you to go in your neighborhood and walk up and down your block, knock on the door and ask whoever is in there, a 40-year-old to come outside. That’s how a real 40-year-old look like.”
He notably referenced LeBron, who will turn 40 in December, and how he might be regarded an outlier for accomplishing what he does at his age.
LeBron can play with his son
LeBron James, the NBA’s longest-serving player, is set to play with his son, Bronny James, on the same team. James, who was selected 55th overall in the 2024 Draft, is expected to create some awkward moments in the team facility or during games. This achievement is a dream come true for James.
LeBron James has set a barrier for his son Bronny to avoid being addressed as “dad” in the team facility or during games.
He can return to being Bronny’s father outside of games and practices, but not until then. LeBron even joked on Twitter about Bronny being referred to as “dad” during a game.
Another indication of LeBron James’ longevity is the fact that he was able to stay in the game long enough for his oldest kid to follow in his footsteps. Fans will be watching the first father-son team in the NBA with considerable curiosity this coming season.
