Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa, a key player for the team, unfortunately, will be absent from the upcoming Champions League match against Bologna scheduled for Wednesday due to an injury setback.

Despite this setback, the team can rely on the availability of Diogo Jota, who will be able to contribute positively after overcoming a minor issue. The absence of Chiesa will undoubtedly be felt, but having Jota back in action offers some reassurance and depth to the squad.

Chiesa sustained an injury in training on Monday

After signing from Juventus late in the transfer window, Chiesa has only played 68 minutes in three games. On Monday, the Italy international suffered an injury during training, and Liverpool manager Arne Slot stated that it is sufficient to take him out of the running.

Jota sat out open training but Slot expects the Portugal striker to be healthy for the clash at Anfield. Darwin Nunez, another forward, is back after the sickness that kept him out of Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League victory against Wolverhampton.

Liverpool, the league leader after six rounds, defeated AC Milan to start the new Champions League. In Slot’s first season in command since taking over for Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool has won seven games overall.

“I don’t accept mediocrity”

Slot will become the first manager in the history of the team to win eight of his first nine games in charge if the Reds defeat Bologna. The Dutchman, however, believes there is still much space for growth and pointed out a number of aspects of the victory at Wolves that he was not satisfied with.

Slot said “We, as a team, if you have so much quality, you cannot accept mediocrity, You have to ask from yourself every second of the day, every second of the game, the highest standards that this shirt brings. I and we as a staff have to set those standards very clear and that last 15 minutes when we lost the ball so many times in promising positions or moments that could lead to promising positions is maybe not acceptable.”

He also added “I don’t lose my temper that much, I don’t think it is a good idea to lose your temper every single day because it doesn’t work. But the positive thing is that maybe I don’t accept mediocrity but these players themselves don’t accept it as well.”
