Following the resignation of Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al-Muhaidib as the club’s president, supporters have urged Cristiano Ronaldo to depart Al-Nassr this summer. The Saudi Arabian team has recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Al-Nassr is a circus according to fans
After failing to win any hardware the previous season, the Knights of Najd have notably failed to bolster their team, frequently being overshadowed by their rivals Al-Hilal. They only won one of their eight friendlies during the preseason, demonstrating their lackluster play.
Only one foreign player has been recruited by Cristiano Ronaldo and company this summer: goalkeeper Bento, who will take David Ospina’s spot. Despite losing to Al-Hilal 4-1 in the Saudi Super Cup final, they have not yet completed any additional deals.
President of Al-Nassr Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al-Muhaidib has now resigned. It is said that CEO Guido Fienga and Chairman of the Board of Directors Raid Ismail interfered with his intentions.
Al-Muhaidib allegedly promised to pay for a new coach, two new local players, and three new foreign players out of his own pocket during a three-hour meeting with other upper management. But when his offer was turned down, he had to resign. Furthermore, it has been alleged that Sultan Al-Ghasyan’s nomination as the club’s director infuriated him.
Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr much awaited action
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the game’s first goal for the Knights of Najd as they defeated Al-Taawoun 2-0 in the Saudi Super Cup final to begin their campaign. In the championship match, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner got things started and got ahead of Al-Hilal. However, he was powerless to stop his team’s 4-1 loss, as Al-Hilal scored four goals in the final 17 minutes of play.
On Thursday, all eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo to lead Al-Nassr to victory. The 39-year-old had a fantastic 2023–24 season, making 45 appearances across all competitions and tallying 44 goals and 13 assists.
