Ruth Gibbins, sister of Liam Payne, posted a heartfelt tribute to her late brother on Instagram just three days after his tragic passing at the age of 31. The former One Direction star was found dead on October 16, 2024, in a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In her emotional message, Gibbins referred to Payne as her “best friend” and expressed her sorrow for not being able to “save” him.

“I can’t believe this is real,” Gibbins wrote, reflecting on their close relationship. She shared cherished memories of Liam’s contagious sense of humor, remembering how his impressions always made her laugh. Gibbins’ sorrow was evident as she grappled with the devastating loss of her dear brother

Reflections on Payne’s Journey from X Factor to Global Stardom

Gibbins’ post also talked about Liam’s amazing journey from being a young contestant on The X Factor to becoming a famous international star with One Direction. She remembered how, at only 17, Payne left home to chase his dreams. Gibbins mentioned that she would drive to see him after her work shifts during the live show weeks, just to spend time with him. “One month, the hotel was a Wagamamas, and I swear he ate there morning, noon, and night,” she said with a smile.

The tribute had many personal stories, like how Payne would play unreleased One Direction songs for her during their car rides after concerts. She remembered their small “1D concerts” and how proud she was of his hard work. Payne’s love for his bandmates and his passion for music were clear through Gibbins’ stories, showing a side of Liam that many people don’t often see.

Gibbins Reflects on Payne’s Struggles and Unwavering Love

Gibbins was equally heartbroken about Liam’s self-doubt and the weight of expectations he dealt with, as her tribute took a more serious turn. She voiced her regret in that the world, despite all his attempts to please people with his every musical endeavor, failed to recognize his worth. “You never thought you’re good enough,” she said. Gibbins had wished that with Payne’s death, the world would now let him appreciate the love which was never bestowed upon him during his lifetime.

She also promised to look after Payne’s son, Bear, making sure that the little boy would always remember how great his father was. Gibbins finished her emotional tribute with one last message directed to Liam: “I wish I could have saved you. I love you, I miss you every day, my heart.”
