BTS’s Jin, the oldest band member, has been announced as the global face for Italian luxury brand Gucci, causing a website crash in Japan due to the overwhelming response from his K-pop fan following.
The official announcement on August 8 sent the fandom into a tizzy
Jin, previously appointed as Fred Jewelry’s global ambassador, has been named Gucci’s newest brand representative. The Italian fashion house secured the popular BTS member, whose global appeal is a major coup for the brand.
The announcement caused Gucci’s Japanese website to temporarily crash due to overwhelming traffic.
Fans in Japan have expressed their excitement over Jin’s appointment as Gucci’s brand ambassador, citing the country’s deep affection for the singer. This follows a similar incident with FRED, a Paris-based luxury jewelry brand, where the website experienced a surge in traffic and a temporary crash within an hour of announcing Jin’s role.
“That’s Kim Seokjin impact”
The internet dubbed a series of website crashes as “Jin’s impact,” warning brands to prepare for a new normal.
Fans rushed to buy items due to Jin’s association, but the crashes at FRED and Gucci go beyond glitches, causing a surge in online shopping.
Social Media users took to the Internet to comment about the situation. One user said “When Fred announced Jin as their first Global ambassador the website crashed within minutes and now after Gucci dropped it’s official announcement on Jin as their global ambassador Gucci website crashed and broke down too,”
Other user said “That’s Kim Seokjin impact / That’s the power Kim Seokjin magic,”
