On the Oct. 3 episode, Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) remained determined to hide the progression of her cancer from her family, especially her husband Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.).
However, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) refused to let Catherine keep lying and called Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) for help, even though the two were currently at odds.

Bailey Stands Her Ground with Catherine
Miranda attempted to reclaim her former role as residency director, but Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) wasn’t open to the idea, dismissively telling her, “Call me assistant and make an appointment.”
As Bailey left, she seemed incredulous, remarking, “I wore my heels for this.” Meanwhile, Meredith Grey returned to the hospital to secretly treat Catherine, honoring her promise to keep the progression of her cancer confidential.
She urged Catherine to tell her husband Richard about her condition, emphasizing that he could “help you through this.” However, Catherine replied that she didn’t want Richard “putting his life on hold waiting for me to die.”
However, Catherine’s condition was almost revealed when Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) interrupted, and Meredith told her it wasn’t a good time. Unaware of the patient’s identity, Amelia remarked that the “liver is covered in tumors” on the scans, which could indicate liver cancer.
“So this is it,” Catherine told Meredith. “This is how I die.”
Bailey Steps In to Help Despite Trust Issues
Realizing she needed assistance, Meredith called on Bailey, who, despite being let go, stepped in to help.
Bailey didn’t believe Catherine’s diagnosis was liver cancer and recommended a biopsy of her tumors, suggesting they could be benign. When Catherine discovered that Meredith had betrayed her trust by informing Bailey, she threatened to sue her again.
Catherine questioned Bailey’s suggestion to do a biopsy, but Bailey insisted that it was what Catherine’s husband Richard had taught her.
Catherine finally agreed to proceed with the biopsy, provided it remained a secret.
The duo then brought in Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) to assist with the biopsy while she continued her fight to regain her role as chief. After being fired in the season 20 finale, Teddy returned to the hospital as a cardiothoracic surgeon instead of chief.
When Richard later asked how she was doing, she replied, “I’m fine, baby,” and the pair sang along to the radio while holding hands.
Blue Comes to Terms with His Past
Benson “Blue” Kwan’s (Harry Shum Jr.) ex-fiancée Molly Tran (Dianne Doan), who suffered memory loss from a car accident, arrived at the hospital seeking answers, much to his annoyance.
Eventually, he relented after she followed him around the hospital and remembered the night they met at a Halloween party. She later told him, “I can’t leave until I know our whole story.”
“Does it really matter what happened?” he asked before finally explaining how their relationship ended.
Blue confessed that he had cheated on Molly. He explained that their argument over his infidelity led to the car accident that caused her memory loss.
Molly accepted the past, saying, “Well, that was nobody’s fault… I’m at peace with it. I got to start over.”
Later, she told him, “I see why I liked you,” adding, “I don’t have feelings about the memories I lost… I wish I remembered you.”
Blue then kissed her, even though she had moved on with someone else.
