Coldplay To Release Final Album In 2025, Says Chris Martin

The frontman of British band Coldplay Chris Martin has disclosed that the group might stop recording new music after their 12th album. In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, he mentioned this decision while promoting their upcoming 10th album, Moon Music, set to release on October 4, 2024.

Coldplay Plans Just 12 Studio Albums

Chris Martin confirmed that Coldplay will only release 12 studio albums, stating, “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah, I promise.” He humorously added, “Less is more,” and acknowledged critics by saying, “For some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.”

Moreover, he revealed that the decision to limit Coldplay’s discography to 12 albums was influenced by some of the band’s most significant musical inspirations. “There are only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 and a half Beatles’ albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes, and also having that limit means that the quality control is high right now, and for a song to make it, it;s almost impossible, which is great.”

“To make an album great as a band, it’s such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their lives for themselves,” he continued.

Coldplay To Focus On Touring Post-2025

In 2021, the British singer talked about the future of Coldplay. He announced that Coldplay intends to release their last album in 2025, after which the band will stay together but will primarily focus on touring instead of making new music.

According to HuffPost, he said, “Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then.”

Coldplay is set to perform in Mumbai next year on January 18, 19, and 21. The British band, featuring Chris Martin (vocals/piano), Jonny Buckland (guitar), Guy Berryman (bass), and Will Champion (drums/percussion), along with manager Phil Harvey, is returning to India after an 8-year hiatus. Their last performance in the country was at the Global Citizen Festival in 2016.
