Celebrating 30 Years of Friends: Imagining the Lives of Ross & Rachel and Monica & Chandler’s Kids Today

Friends commemorates its 30th birthday.

As Friends marks its 30th anniversary, fans are reminiscing about the beloved characters and their journeys throughout the iconic series. Among the most memorable storylines were those involving the children of Ross Geller and Rachel Green, as well as Monica Geller and Chandler Bing. With Ross and Rachel’s daughter Emma and Monica and Chandler’s twins Jack and Erica now fictional teenagers, it’s intriguing to consider where they might be today and how their lives would unfold in the modern world.

Ben Geller would be 29 years old

One of the young actor’s key breakthrough roles was playing Ben, Ross’s son with his first wife, Carol Willick (Jane Sibbett), born at the end of season 1. It was also the first role the actor took on without his twin brother, Dylan. In a 2019 interview with GQ, Cole—who is currently 32 in real life—explained that only one of the actors needed to be present on set because Ben only had a minor part in the series.

Cole and his brother featured together in the popular Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody from 2005 to 2008, as well as the spin-off program The Suite Life on Deck, following the conclusion of Friends in May 2004.

Life of Emma Geller

The 22-year-old Emma Geller is the next to go. On Friends, the twins Noelle and Cali Sheldon, who were just a year old when they debuted in season 8, portrayed Emma, Ross and Rachel’s kid. The two have kept acting ever since, getting parts in short films and the TV show Life.

Noelle and Cali co-starred with Elisabeth Moss, Lupita Nyong’o, and Winston Duke in Jordan Peele’s 2019 film Us. The 22-year-olds also attended UCLA, where they both received their degrees in June 2024.

Phoebe’s Surrogate Niece and nephews

Now Phoebe’s nephews and nieces would be 26 years old. Real-life quadruplets Cole, Justin, Alexandria, and Paul Cimoch made a cameo appearance in season 4 as the triplets Phoebe carried and gave birth to for her brother Frank Jr. (Giovanni Ribisi) and his wife Alice (Debra Jo Rupp).

Since their performances in the sitcom, the siblings, who are now 25 in real life, have largely maintained a low profile. After sharing multiple videos on TikTok that alluded to the quads’ work on Friends, Alexandria had a surge in popularity. In 2017, she uploaded a high school graduation picture of the group, preparing to go college.

Jack and Erica: The Bing Twins’ Adventures

To add insult to injury, the surprise twins that Monica and Chandler welcomed into their home through adoption in the 2004 season finale would now be 20 years old. The two were the final children born to the Friends. In the series, the actors who played the twins received no credit. But by now, they would appear to be halfway through their college degrees.

Jack and Erica Bing would be experiencing their teenage years in Westchester, New York. With their parents’ loving but quirky personalities, they might be balancing school life with extracurricular activities while embracing their family’s legacy. Their adventures could include navigating sibling dynamics, friendships, and perhaps even a budding interest in the arts or sports.

As fans celebrate the legacy of Friends, there is ample opportunity to imagine future storylines for Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Emma, Jack, and Erica. Whether it’s exploring themes of friendship, love, or personal growth, these characters could continue to resonate with audiences as they navigate life’s complexities in a world that has changed dramatically since their parents’ heyday.
