BTS member Suga apologized to fans for a drunk driving incident on WeVerse, but an error in translation caused some to believe he was traveling to India. The emotional post, which was meant to be a genuine apology, turned into a joke.
“I made the mistake of driving to India”
The apology note said “On the night of August 6th, I made the mistake of driving to India on an electric scooter after drinking. Also, I’m sorry for the confusion caused by the first apology I hastily posted on the 7th. I should have thought more deeply and been careful, but I couldn’t. It’s all my fault. My carelessness is giving everyone who cares about me a hard time. I will try not to do anything wrong again and live with repentance.”
He also acknowledged that the band’s reputation has suffered as a result of his conduct. He apologized sincerely at the end of the note. He said “I just feel sorry for the fans who have given me too much love… I know that it is difficult to heal the wounds and disappointments that my fans have received with my words, so I regret it deeply and reflect on it with a heavy heart every day. Once again I sincerely apologize to the fans who were hurt by me. We will receive criticism and reprimand as well as future dispositions. Finally, once again I sincerely apologize for causing a social stir and disappointing many people.”
The band’s Indian fan following, BTS ARMY, became immediately interested when India was mentioned. The error was brought to attention in a video by an Indian K-Pop and K-Drama Instagram account, which commented, “India mentioned, but at what cost.”
CCTV footage showed Suga near the Nine One Hannam apartments in Seoul
Recently, the South Korean rapper made news after being arrested driving an electric scooter while intoxicated. CCTV footage captured Suga at the Nine One Hannam apartments in Seoul, where officers on duty detected the odor of alcohol. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration.
Following the incident, both Suga and his agency published separate comments, referring to the vehicle as a “electric kickboard.” The police then confirmed that Suga “drove while intoxicated” in an electric scooter with a seat.
