The inspiration behind the name
Ashanti is sharing details about her son! The 43-year-old “Baby” singer revealed additional information about her newborn boy, whom she welcomed last month with her husband Nelly, in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight that was released on Wednesday, August 21.
Regarding her son’s name, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, Ashanti disclosed that the 49-year-old Nelly served as the inspiration. The delighted mother told the newspaper, “His dad named him with a lot of pride.” He was very adamant, and we debated his name back and forth for a long time. “This is what I want, I love this, he exclaimed.”
“Nelly was like, ‘I think that would be pretty cool,’ because Kenkaide is my dad’s name, and obviously my dad has only daughters. I thought it was just so great, so considerate, and so kind. All of this was his idea.” She quoted.
Ashanti’s dream of a happy family comes true
In addition, the “Happy” singer revealed the meaning of the name Kareem, which consists of the words “generous, kind, noble, bountiful, and dignified.” Ashanti continued by saying that Nelly had to “fly in at the last minute which was awesome” and that her son had come “a little early.” She told ET, “He made it well before time, which was incredible,” and described the birth as “such an amazing and incredible feeling and experience.”
“I cried just seeing his face for the first time in the delivery room with all of us,” she remarked. “It was really quite spiritual and emotional. Feeling as though I’ve been seeing this moment for a long time. I’ve always wanted a family and to be married.” She mentioned happily.
“However, experiencing all of these feelings simultaneously and realizing that this is who you are, what you’re meant to be, and what your purpose is,” Ashanti went on. “It was an incredible feeling to be able to hold each other as a group of the three of us. It merely confirmed everything. To put it mildly, it was quite spiritual and emotional.”
The new mother also disclosed that her baby son now looks a lot more like her, even though he used to look more like his father. “He’s my twin,” she began, going on to say that her son “sleeps exactly” like his father and that he still looks like him.
