Keylor Navas Joins Pumas: Real Madrid Legend Signs with Liga MX Club

Keylor Navas, the decorated Costa Rican goalkeeper and former Real Madrid star, has officially signed with UNAM Pumas in Mexico’s Liga MX on a one-year deal. At 38, Navas brings a wealth of experience and ambition to a club eager to end its 14-year title drought.

Why Pumas?

Navas sought advice from trusted figures before making the move:

  • Sergio Ramos, his ex-teammate at Madrid and PSG, now plays for Monterrey.
  • Miguel Herrera, Costa Rica’s national coach and former Liga MX manager, encouraged the decision.

“I have the mentality to make history… I believe we can achieve those goals by working with humility,” Navas said during his unveiling.

Strategic Move for Club and Country

Navas chose Pumas not just for club ambitions but also to be closer to Central America ahead of Costa Rica’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He’ll lead “Los Ticos” in Group C alongside Honduras, Haiti, and Nicaragua.

Pumas’ Revamped Roster

The club has made bold moves this summer:
