Rust armourer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the individual involved in bringing a live gun into a bar in Santa Fe, has voluntarily decided to plead guilty to the offense.
As part of the legal resolution, she has been handed an 18-month probation sentence. This outcome marks her acknowledgment of the serious nature of the incident and her willingness to accept the consequences.
Hannah is already serving an 18-month prison sentence
Hannah, who is currently incarcerated, began serving an 18-month prison term after being charged with involuntary manslaughter following the tragic death of renowned cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Rust film set.
The fatal incident occurred when a firearm loaded with live rounds was mistakenly discharged, resulting in Halyna’s untimely passing. Hannah’s imprisonment stems from her involvement in the unfortunate chain of events that led to this heartbreaking outcome.
Her guilty plea in the second case has no bearing on the present case, and she will serve the remainder of her prison sentence. She might have faced another 18 months in prison for taking the gun to a club, but she will now serve supervised probation from her Arizona home.
An attempt to pressure her into pleading guilty
Hannah Gutierrez Reed was convicted by a Santa Fe jury of negligently loading a live bullet into Alec Baldwin’s gun, resulting in the death of Halyna Hutchins, sparking a Hollywood safety debate over the incident on Rust’s sets.
The same charge was attempted against Alec as well, but it was dropped during his July trial when the judge determined that the prosecution had concealed information from the defense.
Gutierrez Reed’s lawyers are arguing that her manslaughter conviction was a pressure to plead guilty and accept responsibility for bringing live bullets onto the set, which she denies doing.
On September 26, a different hearing is scheduled to discuss Gutierrez Reed’s request for a fresh trial in the manslaughter case.
