Any news of a sequel of any franchise is always good news and Dwayne Johnson didn’t ruin it as well. He recently confirmed that the sequel of Hobbs & Shaw is in the development in his recent Instagram Live Q&A session.
“We are developing now the next film, the next [Hobbs & Shaw] movie, and I’m pretty excited about it…Just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we’re going to go,” Johnson wrote in his chat.
However, no one would have thought that the sequel of Hobbs and Shaw would be made. Moreover, the main Fast & Furious “Saga” only has two films left before it finishes. And, F9 will come in 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic around the world and it’s yet not known when Fast 10 will be released.
The movie was based on the physics-free world of the Fast & the Furious franchise where Johnson and Jason Statham portrayed the roles of DSS agent Luke Hobbs and mercenary Deckard Shawalong with Vanessa Kirby‘s Hattie Shaw to take down eco-terrorist Brixton (Idris Elba). Hobbs & Shaw earned an impressive $759 million worldwide as well and a sequel is just a matter of time.
The release date yet not decided
However, Johnson later confirmed the extra scenes will “give you an idea of the new future team.” But, it’s hard to say when Hobbs & Shaw 2 could possibly release in the theatres. Since the next part of the Fast & Furious franchise will come next year, it is expected that the sequel of Hobbs & Shaw might not release until late-2022 or so.
As far as the story is concerned, Hobbs & Shaw left a number of a plot for the sequel to pick up which included Hobbs mends his relationship with his brother Jonah (Cliff Curtis) and the rest of his family. Moreover, it can be important for Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart as they might get bigger roles instead of cameos like in the first movie etc.
Apart from these, there are many plots on which the movie can be made and now, it’s up to Johnson and his crew that how well they manage to pull this up together.
