Jarell Quansah has completed a £35 million move from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen, signing a five-year contract with the Bundesliga club. The 22-year-old centre-back joins after helping England U21s win the European Championship, capping off a breakthrough year that saw him make 58 appearances for Liverpool and win both the Premier League and League Cup.
The deal includes an initial £30 million fee plus £5 million in add-ons, and Liverpool have secured a buy-back clause reportedly worth around £51 million, which becomes active in 2027.
“With Jarell, our defence gains significant dynamism, pace and toughness,” said Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes.
A Homegrown Exit and Strategic Profit for Liverpool
Quansah, who joined Liverpool’s academy at age five, departs as a homegrown player, meaning the transfer fee will be recorded as pure profit under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Though he started the 2024–25 season as first-choice alongside Virgil van Dijk, he lost his place to Ibrahima Konaté and made only 13 league appearances under Arne Slot.
Liverpool Eye Guehi as Defensive Reinforcements
With Quansah gone and Konaté entering the final year of his contract, Liverpool are reportedly interested in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. However, Palace’s asking price—previously around £60 million—may need to drop for a deal to materialize
