Director Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy, is revving up excitement for his upcoming film F1, starring Brad Pitt. In a recent interview, Kosinski shared his passion for cinematic storytelling, saying he grew up watching big-screen adventures like Top Gun and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and wants to deliver that same immersive thrill to today’s audiences.
A Dream Project in Motion
Set in the high-octane world of Formula One, F1 follows Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a retired racer brought back to the track by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) to help revive a struggling team. He’s paired with rising rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), setting the stage for a gripping mentor-protégé dynamic.
Authenticity at Full Throttle
Kosinski emphasized the film’s commitment to realism. With Lewis Hamilton on board as co-producer, the team shot scenes during actual Grand Prix weekends at circuits like Silverstone and Monaco. Pitt and Idris even trained to drive real race cars, and a custom-built camera system was developed to capture IMAX-quality footage from inside the vehicles
> “The tools didn’t exist to make this movie… so we created a new prototype camera,” Kosinski explained, adding that the goal was to make viewers feel like they’re truly inside the race.
Brad Pitt’s Performance & What’s Next
Kosinski praised Pitt’s dedication, calling his performance “really special” and noting that both Pitt and Tom Cruise share a love for pushing boundaries. After F1, Kosinski is set to return to the skies with Top Gun 3, currently in development with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter Ehren Kruger.
