Have you ever imagined about the soaring competition which takes place within the big screen over the selection of stars? However, the tug of war never ceases for a moment as the director continues their quest of picking up the best talents from the industry. In fact, sometimes even after approaching for a deal with the demanded actor, minds can change to grab a better opportunity. Similarly, when the creator of Peaky Blinders was looking out for the perfect talent to portray the character of Tommy Shelby, things didn’t go at par with what was expected in the very beginning.
Flashing the contest
However, Steven Knight shared the unexpected twist within the BBC epic as he spoke about how Jason Statham’s role of Tommy Shelby got passed on to Cillian Murphy. And it all happened over exchanging text messages. Although unbelievable that’s what flipped the tale in one go!
Betting the performance
Fortunately, the Irish actor deserved much of it in his authentic disposition. The executive producer of the show has recently broken the spell over the competent snatch. In an interview with Esquire magazine, he said ‘I met them both in LA to talk about the role and opted for Jason. One of the reasons was because physically in the room Jason is Jason.’ But then how did he shift his view towards the Dunkirk star?
Outplaying the game
Here is what he admitted, ‘Cillian, when you meet him, isn’t Tommy, obviously, but I was stupid enough not to understand that. Afterwards, he sent me a text saying, “Remember, I’m an actor.” ‘Which is absolutely the thing because he can transform himself. If you meet him in the street he is a totally different human being.’
Well, that makes sense at the end. Peaky Blinders season 6 is yet to be released in post-COVID-19.
