Florida police officially confirmed on August 29th that there was no active shooter incident at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Following investigations, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office clarified that the alarming “popping” noise, initially mistaken for a gunshot, was simply generated by a bursting balloon, dispelling any fears and restoring peace among visitors at the popular theme park.
“There is no active shooter.”
The official statement read “ALERT: There is NO active shooter at @WaltDisneyWorld’s Magic Kingdom, A fight occurred, and a ‘popping’ sound was heard that we believe was a balloon.”
They added “Guests began running and that’s how the active shooter rumor started, There is no active shooter.”
Click Orlando recently published a video showcasing the unsettling scene where the park’s gift shops lay deserted and desolate, a haunting aftermath of the reported active shooter. The video vividly captured the eerily abandoned spaces, emphasizing the impact of the incident on the park’s atmosphere and visitors’ experiences.
“Some had to leave their strollers and their carts,”
Park-goer Glenn Brady said he and his family were at one of the stores when people rushed inside, and security instructed them to take cover.
Brady said “Some had to leave their strollers and their carts, So, we were there like 15 minutes, and then we were ushered to another location behind the store where we still remained for, like, another, 30 minutes or so until we were finally ushered out of the park.”
The park visitors were eventually allowed to take buses and a ferry to return to the parking lot.
After the scare had subsided, Disney World promptly issued an official statement in response to the incident.
It said “We appreciate the immediate response of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to quickly assess and clear the situation, Normal operations have resumed and the park is now closed for the evening.”
