Is “Night Owl” better than “ Morning Bird”? Have you ever been part of this debate?
Well, ‘ Night Owls’ may be sharper than morning birds. According to a study, it has been found that people who stay up late have better cognitive skills than people getting up early, they have better performing power. It depends on the chronotypes and different chronotypes play a big role in cognitive skills.
What is a Night Owl?
A night owl may be an individual having different chronotypes, they are mostly active in the evening. All people have different sleeping-waking schedules depending on their preferences. Night Owls are mostly active after dark and struggle to wake in the early morning, they tend to work after dark. It has been found that there are more intelligent and creative than others.
Unique And Creative
Being a late sleeper can have its own unique characteristics that make them different from others. Some studies suggest that night owls are creative and unique. Night people stay up too late and find their best ideas after everyone is asleep, they tend to work in relaxed mode. Some scientists even think that night owls are inherently more intelligent than people waking up early, they are independent and perform their project with their own preferences. In addition they may have a strong gut feeling, and never miss something that others can miss.
How Do They Develop a Sharp Mind?
People who tend to sleep late, mostly enjoy their time alone. Night owls may love to spend time in solitude, this can help them to get time to explore themselves. After the whole world falls asleep, they can find a peaceful environment to work and think on their thoughts. Moreover, some people find the best time during night to perform their hobbies like reading, writing and thinking.
A UK Based Study
The Uk based study, published a journal on July 11,2024. The journal studies the different behavioral patterns of the groups, “Night Owl” and “Early Bird.” The study performed a cognitive test on more than 26,000 people, aiming to find the different patterns, duration and quality of sleep affecting their mental sharpness and overall cognitive ability
“Adults who are naturally more active in the evening tend to perform better on cognitive tests than those who ‘ morning people’, a statement by
author Raha West, Imperial College London, UK.
“Rather than just being personal preferences, these chronotypes could impact our cognitive function.
But that doesn’t mean all morning people have worse cognitive performance. The findings reflect an overall trend where the majority might lean towards better cognition in the evening types” she added.
Co-Study leader Professor Daqing Ma, a Professor at Imperial’s Department of Surgery and Cancer ,said “ We found that sleep duration has a direct effect on brain function, and we believe that proactively managing sleep patterns is really important for boosting, and safeguarding, the way our brains work.”
“ We’d ideally like to see policy interventions to help sleep patterns improve in the general population,” he added.
Conclusion
According to the various studies, it is said that night owls have a sharp mind. Chronotypes help to distinguish a person, night owls have different chronotypes which makes them active after dark. They have different personalities and sleep-wake patterns, making them creative and intelligent. People sleeping late at night find more peace after the rest of the world is asleep, they perform their task in peace and are different from others.
