According to you, what has been the motif of the director behind making The Matrix? While you might have conceived different notions all these days, recently Keanu Reeves has come to reveal that the actual intent behind the saga was to make a trans allegory! And the shocking thing is the actor himself too stayed in the dark just like us.
Behind the surface
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, the star told, “I never spoke to Lilly about that, she never conveyed that to me. I think The Matrix films are profound, and I think that allegorically, a lot of people in different versions of the film can speak to that. And for Lilly to come out and share that with us, I think is cool.”
To be decided by the audience
But whether the upcoming instalment of The Matrix would unveil a similar theme or not is put to question. Addressing the query, Reeves replied, “I don’t know. I think it’ll be open to interpretation.”
Ready, steady, go?
As Lilly Wachowski offered bites to Netflix Film Club, she told that Matrix was anyhow presumed to be an allegory for trans experiences. Wachowski further added, “I’m glad that it has gotten out that, you know, that was the original intention. But the world wasn’t quite ready yet — the corporate world wasn’t ready for it.” She even reported that The Matrix was “all about the desire for transformation, but it was all coming from a closeted point of view.”
Meanwhile, The Matrix 4 would be directed by Lana Wachowski, starring icons like Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick and Jonathan Groff. But the wait won’t be over soon as the movie is expected to hit the theatres on April 1, 2022.
