After collapsing during a Copa Libertadores match, the defender for Uruguayan side Club Nacional, Juan Izquierdo dies after suffering from a cardiac arrhythmia in Brazil.

The Club Released The News Of The Death 

The Club offered condolences to the family as they posted a news of the player’s death on X, “We express our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, teammates and loved ones. All of Nacional is mourning for his irreparable loss. Rest in peace. Juan, you will always be with us.”

The 27-year-old player collapsed in the game against Sao Paulo on 22 August after suffering from cardiac arrhythmia, and was treated medically on the pitch before being taken to the hospital in the evening.

The Doctors said earlier that Izquierdo is under neurological critical care and on a ventilator, showing “a progression of his brain damage and an increase of intracranial pressure”.

Juan Izquierdo born on February 25,1997, in Montevideo Uruguayan was an Uruguayan footballer who primarily plays as a central defender. Izquierdo began his professional career with the Uruguayan club Danubio FC, a club known for developing young talent. At Danubio, he gained valuable experience in the top division of Uruguayan football, the Primera División.

Izquierdo has also played for other clubs in Uruguay, including Central Español and Deportivo Maldonado.In addition to his club career, Izquierdo has had opportunities to represent Uruguay at youth levels. Izquierdo was in his second stint with Nacional when he played a key role in helping the team secure their first league title in over a century in 2023.

Former Uruguayan striker Diego Forlán said on X, “How sad. My most sincere condolences for his family,” 

Luis Suárez, who still plays for Uruguay, said on Instagram, “Pain, sadness, difficult to explain. May he rest in peace and sending strength to his family and friends.”
