Upon taking on the role as the new coach of AS Roma, Ivan Juric shared his insights, expressing his players’ feelings of disillusionment following the departure of club legend Daniele De Rossi.
Despite this shadow of disappointment, Juric commended the team’s resilience and determination, attributing their success to their unwavering commitment on the field.
Their tenacity was evident as they secured a crucial 3-0 victory against Udinese in what marked a significant milestone – their first Serie A win of the current season.
De Rossi was sacked on Wednesday
After dedicating almost twenty years to Roma as a player, De Rossi faced a sudden dismissal last Wednesday following a disappointing start to the season with his team failing to secure a victory in the first four league matches.
Stepping into his shoes is the experienced former Torino coach, Juric, who has been entrusted with steering the team back on track towards success.
Roma’s CEO Lina Souloukou resigned on Sunday in response to the fans’ outrage over De Rossi’s dismissal.
“In the last few days they have worked well”
Juric said “Upon becoming coach I saw that some of the guys here were extremely disappointed about Daniele’s sacking,”
“They were very honest with me in telling me that they were very upset about him being fired. It’s something I really appreciated, because sometimes players hide such emotions.” He added.
Juric continued “In the last few days they have worked well and put in many hours… I really liked how the team responded, especially in the first half.”
With five games under their belt, Roma will play host to Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League on Thursday and Venezia in Serie A on Sunday.
“We’ve got a large squad which allows me to shake things up. In the next two weeks we’ll see a lot of rotation,” added Juric.
