Alabama’s high school quarterback, Caden Tellier, 16, died after hitting his head during a football match. The boy from John T. Morgan Academy in Selma, injured during the third quarter of a game against Southern Academy, marking the latest gridiron tragedy to befall a young player.
“His Head Hit The Ground”
In a report by NBC News, Dallas County Coroner William Dailey said, Tellier was carrying the ball when a Southern defender grabbed him around the waist. The quarterback almost broke free before being brought down by an ankle tackle.
“He went down, landing on his elbow and his head hit the ground. Now, according to everybody there, this was not a violent hit and his head did not strike the ground violently.” Dailey said
Tellier “started staggering” toward his sideline and during concussion protocol, the QB threw up, “went unresponsive” and “never was able to speak again,” the Coroner added.
Immediately Rushed To The Hospital
The Coroner added, The boy was immediately taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma and airlifted to UAB Hospital, where he was declared dead, and as per findings the cause of death was internal bleeding in the brain, caused by fall.
“Everyone who knows Caden has known kindness, generosity and love, and true to his nature, he is giving of himself one more time,” The boy’s mother, Arsella Slagel Tellier, said on Social Media.
“Lives have been touched by the way he lived and now lives will be saved through his passing,” she added.
“He Lived A Life, He Laughed”
Tellier’s father, Jamie Tellier mourns the loss of his son and said Caden was deeply rooted with religion and even though he lived for just 16 years, he enjoyed every moment of his life.
“There are some people that don’t get to do a lot of things in 80 years of a lifetime and my son did everything in 16 years. He lived a life, he laughed, he got to do everything he wanted to do, he accomplished so much (of what) he loved,” said Jamie Tellier
“It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Caden Tellier has gone to be with his Lord and Savior. Caden loved the Lord with all his heart and was a shining light every day he graced the halls of Morgan Academy,” Morgan Academy headmaster Dr. Bryan Oliver said.
