Wales midfielder Sophie Ingle has confirmed she will be ready to play in the team’s Euro 2025 opener against the Netherlands on Saturday, 5 July. The 33-year-old has been sidelined for nine months after suffering an ACL injury last September but has made a remarkable recovery to rejoin the squad.

“I feel good. I’m still ticking off a few things with the medical team, but I’m in a good place on the pitch,” Ingle said during Wales’ pre-tournament camp in Portugal.

Wales will face a tough Group D, which includes France and England, after their opening match in Lucerne, Switzerland.

A Journey of Resilience and Leadership

Ingle, who has 141 international caps, was a key figure in Wales’ qualification campaign. Despite her injury, she remained involved with the squad, attending training camps and even working as a TV pundit during the play-off win over the Republic of Ireland.

“I wanted to be here with the girls on this journey… I would’ve been kit man if you wanted me to,” she said on the Feast of Football podcast.

Ingle is currently without a club after leaving Chelsea this summer, but her leadership and experience remain vital to Wales’ historic first appearance at a major women’s tournament.

What’s Next for Wales

Wales will continue their preparations in Portugal before heading to Switzerland on 29 June. After facing the Netherlands, they’ll play France on 9 July and England on 13 July. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals
