When presenter Colin Jost appeared in the “Weekend Update,” the acoustic guitar behind him resting on the couch gradually turned out to be the ball roller in the show. And the transition happened all within the casual setup as it became the viewers’ new favorite SNL character and that too in one shot. The emerging star rode a bright fate until SNL rearranged its ambiance with green screens for the upcoming remote episode. Since then, it has hardly made any appearance, which doesn’t necessarily mean that the audience has forgotten the engager these days. And recently, the owner of the prop has hit the headlines in official acknowledgment which brings Jost’s fiancée, Scarlett Johansson, into the scene.
Framing the TV show
In an interview with the New York Times, Jost briefly spoke about the guitar while promoting his memoir, A Very Punchable Face. Then, the American comedian said, “Scarlett had that guitar forever and it was in the quarantine. She was like, ‘Maybe I should learn how to play,’ and just left it on the couch. It was so perfectly framed there and then everyone pointed it out and I was like, how can I be so dumb? I had no awareness of it at all.” That’s how the rising star gained its fame! Now, we are like, what? If you are waiting for a worthy read into the book, it would hit the shelves on July 14.
An unforeseen popularity
Tom and Jerry’s actor had previously acknowledged the guitar’s significance on Instagram back in April writing, “My favorite observation from the last episode, even among my fellow cast members, was: ‘Great job including the guitar, douchebag,’. This might sound incomprehensible but I did not know it was on the couch, let alone perfectly framed behind me. I have never, nor do I pretend to play, the guitar. Nor do I physically understand how it works. I just Mr. Magoo’ed into having a guitar behind me.” There comes the actual challenge of acquiring recognition in an unintended way! Although sounds strange, luck can never be underestimated.
