On the series premiere of The Braxtons on August 9, 2024, Toni Braxton shared a deeply emotional story about her recent health scare. The legendary singer, who has battled lupus since 2007, revealed that she nearly suffered a widowmaker heart attack.
In a tearful confession, she credited her late sister Traci Braxton as her guardian angel during the life-threatening event.
The Emotional Reveal
Toni, 56, hesitated to tell her family about the severity of her condition. During a dinner with her sisters Towanda, Trina, Tamar, and her mother Dr. Evelyn Braxton, she finally disclosed the full extent of her health struggles.
“If I had a heart attack, I wouldn’t have survived, I wouldn’t be here right now,” Toni said, explaining that doctors managed to catch the heart blockage just in time.
A Heartfelt Confession
Toni revealed that despite having a stint placed in her heart, she might eventually need bypass surgery. The thought of this procedure, along with the fear of never being able to tour again, has caused her significant anxiety. She shared her fears with her family, who were visibly shaken by the news.
“All I could think about were my boys,” Toni confessed, referring to her sons, Denim and Diezel Braxton-Lewis.
Sister Traci: A Guardian Angel
During the episode, Toni broke down as she spoke about how her sister Traci, who passed away from esophageal cancer two years ago, was watching over her. “They told me your sister was watching over you because they were right, you should be dead today. You should not be alive,” she said tearfully.
As The Braxton returns for a new series, the family honors Traci’s legacy while navigating their own health challenges. Toni’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength found in family and the belief that loved ones continue to watch over us even after they’re gone.
