Robbie Williams’ highly anticipated biopic, “Better Man,” promises to deliver a fresh and unconventional perspective on the pop star’s life journey.
In a surprising twist revealed in the first trailer, the 50-year-old singer not only lends his voice to the character but also embodies a visually striking portrayal as a monkey.
Directed by Michael Gracey, known for his work on “The Greatest Showman,” this unique approach is set to captivate audiences as they delve into the extraordinary and unexpected aspects of Williams’ compelling life story.
“One of the greatest entertainers of all time,”
The synopsis states that Better Man is “based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams, one of the greatest entertainers of all time,”
It also added the movie “is uniquely told from Williams’ perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit.”
“It follows Robbie’s journey from childhood, to being the youngest member of chart-topping boyband Take That, through to his unparalleled achievements as a record-breaking solo artist — all the while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring,” synopsis concludes.
“You’re going to fall in love with this character”
Director Gracey said “To see himself as a performing monkey wasn’t just whilst he was famous — it was his whole life, He was always putting on a performance at [his hometown] Stoke for the other kids, at home for his parents. And it made it so powerful for me because I was like, You’re going to fall in love with this character, this little monkey. And you’re going to invest emotionally in this little monkey. As long as you set that contract at the start of the film, you’re in, and you will go with that monkey through the entire journey.
Director Gracey’s first feature since his Pink documentary P!nk: All I Know So Far from 2021 is the new film. Apart from it and the 2017 film The Greatest Showman, he is also well-known for helming music videos for artists such as Alesha Dixon and Pink, as well as Natasha Bedingfield.
The film Better Man also features the following actors: Kate Mulvaney, Tom Budge, Frazer Hadfield, Jonno Davies, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, and Alison Steadman.
