Rapper Chino XL’s suicide death has been confirmed by his family. They stated “It’s been the most painful and personal experience of our lives but in honor of Suicide Awareness Month, we decided to share this truth,”
He died at his home on July 28.
Chino had been diagnosed with congenital heart failure
The statement also stated that his official cause of death, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office, was suffocation by ligature hanging.
Additionally, it mentioned that Chino was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer earlier this year and congenital heart failure in 2020. He went on to say that he battled depression his entire life.
His daughters said “Our father was our rock and our best friend, Papa Bear loved us and taught us so much.”
“Hundreds of emails, texts, chats and beautiful posts and comments on social media, have shown us that Dad was a fountain of strength to so many, He encouraged and comforted pretty much everyone in his path and left this dimension with an untouchable creative legacy. We are grateful beyond words for our time with Dad and are overwhelmed by the immeasurable global outpouring of love from around the world.” They added.
The letter also refuted unfounded rumors that the family intended to release Chino’s record in October, stating that an official release date has not yet been set.
They further mentioned that an unidentified person disclosed to individuals that he was representing the family online in order to leak the album.
The family also added “An unscrupulous individual illegally leaked Dad’s new album, online, To add to this excruciating time, this man’s contemptuous actions, have hurt what was originally Dad’s intended December album release, where a considerable portion of the proceeds were to be donated to charitable organizations.”
“He gave us most in that role was his strength”
According to the statement, the family has hired litigation counsel and filed a lawsuit against this person. The late artist’s family reportedly revealed his passing on social media in July, telling PEOPLE that they were “devastated to relay the news.” According to the family letter, Chino passed away early on Sunday, July 28 at his house.
His daughters wrote “Our father had many titles — King of Punchlines, Puerto Rican Superhero — but the most important one was Girl Dad, And what he gave us most in that role was his strength, straightforwardness, and ability to be super realistic.”
“The main thing we are feeling now is that our Dad is at peace, and so we are at peace,” they added.
The following people survive Chino: his mother Carole; his previous long-term companion Stephanie; his stepson Shawn; his grandchildren Emmy, Emery, Chris, Luis, and Dyani; and his children Chynna, Bella, Lyric, and Kiyana.
The family wrote “The family asks for privacy. A private memorial service will be arranged,”
