Actor Rachel Zegler, who recently starred in Disney’s live-action Snow White, has addressed the wave of online criticism she’s faced since her casting. In a candid interview with i-D magazine, the 24-year-old shared how she copes with negativity and why she refuses to adopt a victim mentality.

> “I think a victim mindset is a choice, and I don’t choose it,” Zegler said. “I also don’t choose nastiness in the face of it. I choose positivity and light and happiness.”

Zegler’s casting in Snow White sparked debate in 2021, with some questioning the decision. The backlash intensified in 2022 after she called Prince Charming from the original 1937 film “dated,” adding that he “literally stalks” Snow White. Despite the criticism, Zegler has remained focused on her values and mental well-being.

Choosing Positivity Over Hate

Zegler acknowledged that online comments can be “really alarming at times,” but she emphasized the importance of mindset. > “Happiness is absolutely a choice, and every day I wake up and I think I’m very lucky to live the life I live,” she said.

Her approach to handling public scrutiny is rooted in self-awareness and emotional resilience. Rather than engaging with negativity, she chooses to focus on gratitude and joy.

Speaking Out for What Matters

Beyond her acting career, Zegler has also been vocal about humanitarian issues. She has expressed support for Palestine amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, stating: > “My compassion has no boundaries… My support for one cause does not denounce any others.”

When asked if her outspoken views could affect her career, she responded with conviction: > “There are obviously things that are at stake by being outspoken, but nothing is worth innocent lives. My heart doesn’t have a fence around it, and if that is considered my downfall? There are worse things.”

What’s Next for Rachel Zegler

Snow White, directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man), was released in March and also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Despite the controversy, Zegler continues to rise in Hollywood, balancing her career with a strong sense of purpose and authenticity.
