Jackie Chan received the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera award at the 78th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. The 71-year-old action legend was celebrated for his 64-year career, which includes iconic films like Police Story, The Fearless Hyena, and Rush Hour. Chan greeted fans with his trademark charm and humor, joking about the weight of the award and expressing gratitude to his collaborators and audience.

Hollywood Is All Business Now, Says Chan

During a masterclass session, Chan shared his candid views on the current state of Hollywood. He said, “I think the old movies are better than today. Right now, a lot of big studios, they’re not filmmakers, they’re business guys. They invest 40 million and think, ‘How can I get it back?’ And you can’t go over. It’s very difficult to make a good movie now”.

A Rare All-Rounder in Asian Cinema

Chan also reflected on his unique skill set, noting that only two people in Asia can write, direct, act, choreograph stunts, and edit: Sammo Hung and himself. He quipped, “And I’m better because I know how to sing”. Chan’s versatility has made him a cultural bridge between East and West, and he continues to evolve, now focusing more on singing and acting than dangerous stunts.

Looking Ahead with Love and Peace

Chan concluded his Locarno appearance with a heartfelt message: “Love and peace. Love you all!” He acknowledged that he can’t perform stunts forever and is now embracing new creative outlets. His recent role in Karate Kid Legends and the upcoming Rush Hour 4 show that he’s still active, but with a more measured approach to filmmaking
