During the September 3 episode of America’s Got Talent, Simon Cowell, 64, made a heartfelt gesture by awarding the golden buzzer to the awe-inspiring aerial act of Sebastián and Sonia.
This empowering decision was prompted by Sebastián’s remarkable strength and determination displayed in his solo performance after facing an unexpected injury.
“It’s been so hard, but now it’s worth it.”
The contestants said “It was crazy, It’s been so hard, but now it’s worth it.”
Sonia shattered her elbow during a dress rehearsal, forcing her partner to walk the stage alone. Judges Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel all applauded his ability to resist gravity.
“I was just breathing and telling myself, ‘Okay, keep calm. I have to do this for us, for the group,’ ” said Sebastián.
“I just tried to focus again on the act, and when I heard the audience, they gave me a lot of power because I was feeling weak and nervous” he added “It’s been long days, hard days, but as soon as the music started and the cheers of the crowd, I was feeling it. It gave me a lot of strength.”
Sonia watched her partner, Sebastián, perform backstage with AGT host Terry Crews, describing it as “amazing” and feeling her soul on stage with him. Despite feeling exhausted and uncertain about the outcome, when Cowell pressed the button, they started to cry, as it made everything feel worth it. Sebastián shared that she felt like she was staying with her partner throughout the performance.
“I wasn’t expecting to do it,”
“I wasn’t expecting to do it, But when I saw him after hearing the story, I was blown away. I thought, ‘that’s how you do it.’ He was incredible.” Said Cowell.
The judges, including Klum, were impressed by Sebastián’s performance, stating that he did his partner proud and that it was a triumph to continue participating in the competition.
Mandel said “What they do as a couple is incredibly dangerous, is incredibly beautiful, and the fact that the show must go on, and he made it just as elegant and beautiful as it could be, There was something more emotionally wonderful about it.”
Sonia is determined to perform in the two-night finale, starting on September 17 and ending on September 24, but acknowledges the extensive work ahead of her.
“Every day I push in the gym, Rehabilitation and a lot of positivity.” She said.
Sebastián added “It’s going to be harder for her, But she will get it. It’s going to be hard, but it’s going to be worth it.”
